This week has been confirmed that the Harry Potter franchise will expand and the series of books about Harry Potter be made into a TV series. According to Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, the TV series will have a new cast, it will be more detailed than movies and the story is gonna be deeper.

It’s assumed that each of the books will correspond to one season. There are seven novels in the JK Rowling series, so we can expect at least 7 seasons.

It is also known that Ms. Rowling is going to be an executive producer together with Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts. HBO Max is currently looking for a writer and lead producer for the show. The Harry Potter’s author also said that it is important for her that HBO Max will try to maintain the integrity of her novels.

Harry Potter Franchise

Recall that the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was originally published in 1997, and the last, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007.

In addition to the books, all of which have been bestsellers, there have been 8 movies about Harry Potter released to date. Totally it generated over $7.7 billion. Plus there’s also a Fantastic Beasts movie franchise, toys, theme parks and video games including the recently released Hogwarts Legacy video game. As for the game it became another success for the franchise. In the first 2 weeks, the game sold 12 million copies, which generated $850 million in sales.

Mixed reactions

However, responses about TV series mixed. A lot of subscribers of social networks took this news negatively: they write that the authors of the show are looking just for a profit, that the main roles for the sake of modern trends can be given to representatives of various kinds of minorities. On the other hand, it is possible that serious mistakes made in the making of films can be corrected, since the serial format is more suitable for transferring all significant plot material to the screen.

Plus a new wave of criticism concerns JK Rowling, who spoke controversially on gender and her comments about trans people have previously led to aggression by transgender rights activists. Recently, activists have called for a boycott of the game, but its success only pushed sales of novels up 35% last year. Now aggressive activists have attacked the announced TV series. They don’t seem to know that the book doesn’t get any worse from their boycott, and that a good story is worth it to be filmed.
